Spring 2018 in the vineyard

posted on 16 May 2018
…and here it is already May… The vineyards this spring went through budbreak right on schedule, or nearly, but the weather in April, which was warm and sunny, advanced vine development, slightly earlier than in past seasons. The shoots are pushing out rapidly now and with a consistency we rarely see, so we are marching with giant steps to that magical, fragrant moment of the flowering of our future clusters. Work in the vineyards is proceeding very well—suckering, shoot thinning and positioning—to ensure the best possible vine growth and health, which was helped this year by a spring in which rains and sun alternated in a very helpful balance. Particularly fascinating in this period is the flowering of the many wild grasses that grow in our vineyards, giving them the appearance of a brightly-coloured natural garden. The flowering of the facelia is particularly impressive. It is part of the seed mixture we chose for our in-row cover crop, which then goes into the earth as green manure to enrich the soil with organic material and to replenish soil health—really a wonderful show! Italia in Rosa From June 1st to 3rd, Moniga del Garda castle will hold the tasting event “Italia in Rosa”. There will be almost 150 rosé wines, coming from Italy and France. During the entire event, I will be at the tasting area with myRosanoire 2017 Bio. Instagram Our recent experience on Instagram is thrilling us. Groppello and Valtènesi got married

posted on 1 September 2014
New Valtènesi DOC 1 September marks the official release of our first vintage of Valtènesi DOC, 2013. In point of fact, Cantrina’s Valtènesi is not a new product, since it simply takes the place of Groppello, with the same 100% of that variety and the same label design (in which the term Valtènesi replaces the name of the Groppello grape), but the change gives increased importance to the name of the growing area in which we live and produce our wines. It will just take a bit of time to get used to the new name and to communicate the message about the growing area, before that of the grape variety

A busy Spring in Cantrina

A busy Spring in Cantrina These sun-filled days are gorgeous, and nature is in full flower. We winegrowers are always keeping a wary eye on the sky and our mind on the growing season: we hope it’s a good beginning… But we’ll talk about the season a bit later; let me tell you first about what’s going on here at Cantrina. PROWEIN As I’m writing this, I’m finishing preparations for ProWein; in fact, I’m almost out the door! Cantrina was invited by Merum to participate for the first time in the most important wine show in northern Europe, on 23-25 March. Germany is very important for us, both for current sales as well as what we could do there in the future. Come see us in Hall 3 at Stand R50

The Befana at Cantrina

posted on 6 January 2014
By now it has become a tradition at Cantrina: Cristina and Diego take advantage of this traditional Italian Epiphany celebration to wish everyone a Happy New Year. At a time that is a difficult one for so many people, we have to show ourselves even more optimistic and forward-looking, and the Good Witch, our beloved Befana, will surely bring a measure of healthy irony and wisdom…
